Michigan School Uses SmartBoot System in Response to Active Threat

Students and staff at Lawton High School are safe after utilizing The SmartBoot System in response to an active threat. On March 27, 2024, school officials placed the building into full lockdown after becoming aware of an active threat.

Within seconds, students and staff were alerted via the school’s mass alert lockdown system. They barricaded classroom doors using The Boot® and awaited updates from law enforcement.

Lawton Community Schools worked with The LockOut Company to implement The SmartBoot System in their three district buildings. The new school security system went live throughout the district in October 2023, just months before the incident. In addition to the system, each school received highly reflective signage, a color coded zoning system, customized room maps, and protective exterior window coverings.
